With prime trade winds, crystalline shores and year-round sunshine, what better place to host a premier sailing event than in Bermuda? From October 16-18, Bermuda is set to host the Louis Vuitton America”s Cup World Series in Hamilton. As the first leg of the America”s Cup competition, the World Series will feature all of the America”s Cup teams racing in one-design AC45 catamarans, in hopes of earning points that will advance them to the Finals at the 35th America”s Cup in 2017.

The race course will be located in the Great Sound. The finish line will be positioned in the Great Sound for race one of each day and in Hamilton Harbor for the second race, providing perfect viewing opportunities for both on water and on shore spectators. If you”re looking for the best spot to watch the race, The No. 1 Dock on Front Street offers unobstructed views of the finish line for free. Or, if you really want to get in the middle of all the action, you can enjoy on-water access to the excitement — as the teams sail right past spectator boats and across the Great Sound.

“I think what makes this event so important to Bermuda is it’s a real opportunity to show the America’s Cup what Bermuda is all about and for America’s Cup to show the world what Bermuda is all about,” America’s Cup communications director Peter Rusch told the Royal Gazette.

Not only will the America”s Cup bring the world”s greatest sailors to our shores, but a bevy of exciting events for visitors and locals to enjoy, too. The Race Village, which will be situated in Hamilton, will be an epicenter for family-friendly events, as well as evening activities. Entertainment will abound, including a concert headlined by Shaggy, Maxi Priest and local Bermuda acts.

Coinciding with the grand sailing event is the Our Bermuda Festival, which will see Front Street being transformed into a massive street party. The family-friendly festival will feature dozens of food vendors, exhibitors, sailing, live commentary, fireworks, Dock Out and Dock In shows, a concert and plenty of kid-approved activities, all showcasing Bermudian culture.
