Haiti Jazz Festival Announced for January

New York, NY, November 2018— The annual Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival otherwise known as PAPJAZZ has grown to become one of the largest and most eagerly anticipated Festivals in the Caribbean, attracting thousands of jazz lovers and lovers of good music from across the globe. The week-long Festival series will feature more than ten of the top International Jazz headliners in addition to the best of Haitian music from top musical artists. The event will kick off from January 19-26, 2019 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
PAPJAZZ is a unique Festival that remains true to the heart and soul of Jazz music with a signature program that sets it apart from other festivals in the region. Organized by The Haiti Jazz Foundation, for the 13th edition, PAPJAZZ will host musicians from an international roster which includes Grammy Award-Winning Jazz vocalist Cecile Mclorin Salvant, Spain’s Flamenco jazz artist Antonio Serrano, Fusion jazz violinist Chelsey Green, France’s Jazzy funk band Dam’nco, Guadeloupe’s Fusion Gwo Kaand American Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Terence Blanchard.
Some of the acts to provide the over 20,000 attendees with the best of Haitian music includes headliners such as Paul Beaubrun and his reggae-rasin music, BIC for his rapper folk style of music and the flamboyant up and coming World music singer Phyllisia Ross. These are some of the electrifying musicians who will take part in the 2019 Festival.

The multi-day event is comprised of evening music concerts on ten different stages around the capital city. At the end of each concert are after-hours jam sessions at top Haitian restaurants with our guest musicians, allowing visitors to discover great French and Creole-infused cuisine while jamming the night away to the groovy sounds of Haitian roots music. The event will also feature free music workshops and empowerment seminars, with guest musicians offering advice and mentorship for the development of local Haitian artists. This is the shining example of the country’s immense potential to bring together international musicians while fueling Haiti’s local economy as it educates a young generation of talented musicians.

About the Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival: Since 2007, every year during the last week of January, jazz concerts featuring musicians from all over the world are held each evening, on 10 different stages around the capital city. Every evening, following the concerts, jam sessions are held in restaurants around the city with the intro bands. In addition, free music workshops for Haitian musicians are hosted by guest musicians participating in the Festival. The steering committee of the Festival includes the public sector with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism, the international community via 10 embassies, the civil society, and private sponsor).
The Haiti Jazz Foundation (a nonprofit organization) coordinates and administrates all logistics and technical aspects, the scheduling and booking of concerts and venues, the marketing and communications for the event. The Foundation also manages all finances for the Festival.
