VIEUX FORT, Saint Lucia (April 2019) – A sky filled with a kaleidoscope of color means kitesurfing season is in full swing at Saint Lucia’s Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa where conditions are some of the world’s best. Professional instructors offer lessons for everyone from beginners to advanced lovers of this popular sport at the resort’s Surf Shack, a world-class facility on the mile-long Anse de Sables Beach. This season the resort has re-introduced their Surf and Stay kitesurfing package which includes their Premium All-Inclusive stay at Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa as well as beginner lessons and an International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO) certification card upon completion.

“Kitesurfing is called the fastest growing watersport and that’s not a surprise, its adrenaline inducing with a wide appeal for all ages,” says Zachary Frangos General Manager of Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa. “We have years of experience having opened our Surf Shack and offering lessons here since 2011, with our ideal conditions our guests who are new to the sport are hooked as soon as they experience the thrill of powering a kite with the wind and flying across the water.” On-shore, 15-25 knot winds from the Atlantic make Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa’s Surf Shack one of the best kitesurfing destinations during the season, November – July. These are great winds with easy riding on flat shallow water inside of the reef for beginner and intermediate enthusiasts, and more waves outside of the reef where experienced riders can take on the Atlantic swell. All skill levels have an easy launch from the Surf Shack’s beachfront staging area.

This season the Surf Shack team has introduced a state-of-the-art, two-way radio communication system allowing the instructors and students to have real-time communication and feedback during lessons. The Surf Shack is also equipped with the latest Naish equipment for lessons and rentals including 2018/2019 Pivot kites and boards, from twin tips to surfboards. Guests are welcome to bring their own gear and for a $25 Daily Facility Fee will receive equipment storage, air compressor usage, assisted launching and landing, and boat rescue and supervision.

The new Surf and Stay kitesurfing package includes Zero to Hero lessons for beginners broken down into three, three-hour sessions with all gear included. The First Stage lays the groundwork to becoming a safe and independent kitesurfer with instruction on how the wind works, assessing safety and safety procedures, gear assembly and flying the kite on land. The Second Stage teaches the skills needed for steering the kite in figure eights, body dragging and the powerstroke, launching, relaunching and board recovery. During the Third Stage students learn how to water start, board body position and edging to control speed. Surf Shack instructors also offer “Refresh & Ride” lessons for intermediate kitesurfers to hone their skills as well as Fun & Fly advanced lessons to improve performance and learn new tricks.
