The sibling resorts in Aruba were awarded the 2023 Silver Travel Weekly Magellan Award in the Overall Eco-Friendly “Sustainable” resort/hotel category. This award is a testament to their ongoing commitment to the environment through a range of practices which can be viewed on their newly launched website’s Sustainability page. From marketing to services to green initiatives, the annual Travel Weekly Magellan Awards honor the very best in travel and the outstanding travel professionals behind it all. More specifically, these initiatives include but are not limited to:
- Removing plastic straws and other paper goods on each property
- Eliminating the use of disposable plastic glasses, paper napkins and paper plates
- Gifting reusable water bottles for guests to eliminate disposable plastic bottles and paper cups
- Adding water stations throughout the properties and reducing disposable plastic bottle usage by 60%
- Adding efficient equipment and fixtures throughout the properties to reduce energy consumption including led lighting, 100% energy-saving light bulbs, solar-powered shuttles, and energy-saving air conditioning systems
- Minimizing water usage and waste while maximizing reuse
- Protecting the habitat of the endangered loggerhead, leatherback, and green turtles that nest on the resorts’ beach
- Participating in Aruba’s beach conservation project with employees
- Reducing pollution generated by our activities through clean energy measures, which include high-efficiency kitchen equipment, eliminating all single-use plastic disposals and reuse of grey water for landscaping
- Providing electric bikes for senior staff members to reduce car usage between properties
- Organizing and participating in beach clean-ups across the island
